Loose fit, tight fit, think they're all the same? Wrong, check out my review of Jaco's Long Sleeve Rashguard and see how it stacks up.

Per Manufacturer-

This Loose Compression Rashguards ultra breathable Bamboo/Spandex blend provides a cashmere-like feel and comfortable formed fit that protects the skin during grappling and rolling.

95% Rayon from Bamboo, 5% Spandex construction naturally effectively wicks moisture

4-way stretch and ergonomic cut ensures an athletic contoured fit that forms to the body without limiting movement

Strategically placed mesh panels help regulate body temperature

Flat-lock stitching for long-lasting durability

Hidden mouth guard pocket

First Impression- When I first saw this rashguard I was impressed by the quality. I however prefer a tight rashguard over a loose fitting style, but with the bamboo construction and the overall look of this rashguard lets see if this one can convince me otherwise.

Construction- While looking over this rashguard you will see how well it is made. All of the stitching is done very well with no loose ends or torn fabric. This is easily the softest rashguard I have ever come across. The combination of the bamboo and spandex fabrics make it feel incredibly durable. It does have screen printed logos, but it has been through quite a few washes already and they look good as new. Jaco really tried to innovate new features into this rashguard and I think they pulled it off. You will notice that there is an internal mouthguard pocket which is located towards the bottom of the rashguard on the inside. Another thing to point out is the mesh panels. Up until about a month ago this is the only rashguard that I have seen that features something like this and I really enjoy having these built in. It is manufactured in Vietnam.

Fit- With rashguards that are a tight fight I find sizing to be something that is very difficult because I can get it to fit me tight in the upper arms, but then might be loose in the chest and around my wrists. Well with this rashguards that is not the case. I choose to take the advice from Jaco and go with my t-shirt size which is a medium. This rashguard fits me like a slim fit shirt would, where it is not tight but not baggy. The fabric feels great, and has an amazing stretch too it. One thing I did notice is how much sweat this rashguard soaks up. While it is nice that it wicks up so much moisture, it takes a very long time to dry off. The mesh panels do exactly what they are suppose to do. Sometimes while wearing a long sleeve rashguard I find myself to become very hot and sometimes even uncomfortable. Well with these mesh panels I could notice that the rashguard itself did not keep as much heat in. The sleeves are a little long for me, but really a minor problem and will not apply to everyone. I would say when ordering this make sure and order your normal size.

Stand Up- Some people do not like to use a rashguard during stand up, but because I frequently go between ground and stand up in the same workout I end up wearing it for both. While using this during stand up I found both good and bad points. First the good, the rashguard itself is very soft and comfortable and does do a good job at breathing well. It also has great range of motion and is excellent at wicking away moisture. However because it does such a good job at wicking away moisture, it becomes quite heavy and very noticeable. It also take a very long time to dry off which adds to it feeling heavy.

Ground- This is were the bread and butter of a rashguard should be. It does a good job at protecting you when using a GI from things like the GI rubbing against your neck or arms and becoming irritated. One thing that did bother me and I find this to be with all loose fit style rashguards is that it does bunch up in places which can be annoying. For this rashguard hopefully you have a light weight style GI because while during stand up this rashguard stays cool, when under a GI it can get very hot. The moisture wicking in this case actually helps here because it keep you a little cooler but by the end of your workout I guarantee you will be absolutely soaked. If you use this for nogi it works about the same as stand up, but once again it does bunch up.

Pros-

*Build Quality

*Mesh Panels

*Great Moisture wicking

Cons-

*Takes a long time to dry off

*Heavy

Overall- The best way to describe my overall feelings on this rashguard are it does exactly what it says it does. Are there rashguards that I like better? Sure. I prefer a tight fit rashguard. Does that mean that this is a bad rashguard? No. It has a very soft feel to it and the construction is top notch. I can not really fault it just because it is a loose fit style. The only huge fault that I could find was how much moisture it holds in which makes it heavy. I can recommend this one just based on the quality and Jaco’s reputation. If you are in the market for a new rashguard be sure and check this one out. Oh and if long sleeve is not your style they also make a short sleeve version. You can purchase this rashguard for right around $60.

Have all this extra cash left over after Christmas, and need to buy some new mma gear? Well what are you waiting for? Here is my guide to the best gear in the last year part 1.

Here it is almost the end of 2010 and I know what you are thinking. I have all this extra cash left over after Christmas and I need to buy some new mma gear. Well what are you waiting for? There is tons of great gear out there and I am going to take you through what I think is some of the best of the year. Whether you are thinking shorts or gloves, mouthguard or gi, or ever just a new hoodie I got you covered. Just sit back, relax, and enjoy a look at what I think are the best of 2010, and with 2011 coming up I can not wait to see what is just around the corner.

I think the best way to do this is I am going to present this in portions… first up shorts.

SHORTS

Every one of us that is a hardcore gear addict knows this is the staple of our addiction. You can never have too many pairs of mma shorts. I know that I can’t, and just continue to get them no matter how many pairs that I have. As new stuff comes out, I must have to have it. These are just a couple examples of the shorts that I have reviewed that I think are ones that you should not live without.

Sprawl Fusion-S Shorts

These are really some of the best shorts out on the market. With almost every key feature combined into one short this is surely not a pair that you will want to pass up.

Need a new rashguard? I take a closer look at the sprawl Long Sleeve Fight Shirt Repeller-Black.

Per Manufacture- Rethink Your Rashguard. You hear a lot about moisture wicking shirts, now feel the difference of moisture repelling shirts. While most rash guards are designed to keep your sweat away from your body, they do very little to keep your training partner’s sweat off of you. The SPRAWL Repeller does just that. The Repeller fabric is treated at the fiber level so that it never absorbs moisture making it sweat and blood repellent. This also makes for a very fast drying garment. These properties make the SPRAWL Repeller especially well designed for contact sports such as grappling and wrestling. This Repeller fabric is soft, comfortable and breathable with a little bit of stretch. It has an athletic cut making it not too loose and not too tight. The new SPRAWL repeller is a unique advancement to traditional rashguards. This enhancement makes them the perfect protective garment for grapplers and MMA athletes.

First Impression- When I first pulled this rashguard out I noticed that it was nice and thick. I also like the fact that it had very small logos and a clean look to it. Also the seams were well done and felt like it was going to be durable.

Construction- The feel of this rashguard is unlike any other I have. Most feel like spandex where as this one just has a nice soft feel to it. It is made out of 100% nylon and has excellent stretching ability. It is made here in the United States so of course that’s going to be a pro for it. All stitching is done very well and has no loose threads. The one and only logo it has however is screen printed so we will see how long that lasts.

Fit- The fit of this rashguard is good. Unlike most rashguards which are skin tight this one has more of a loose feel to it which I liked. I ended up going with a medium which is perfect causing it to not be too loose. It stays in place well and as long as it is tucked in your shorts does not ride up. One thing I did notice however is I could definitely notice I was wearing it. Not in an annoying way just could always feel it moving with me. I did mange to stay fairly cool and not over heat like I have with some of the skin tight rashguards I own.

Stand up- This rashguard works excellent in the stand up game. It allows plenty of range of motion and really feels very natural while wearing it. Something I noticed about it is how fast it dries. I could easily have this thing soaked and it a matter of 10 minutes would be almost completely dry again. The repeller fabric does exactly what it says it does, and because of the fact that it is a loose fit rashguard it did not rid up of shift at all.

Ground- I really got to see what this rashguard was all about once I used it for ground work. Normally when wearing a rasguard on the ground it becomes soaking wet both you and your partners sweat. Well it did get wet with my partners sweat but only on the outside. I could actually see the beads of sweat that would appear on the outside of the rashguard. Now while I would think that would make it not breath so well I would be wrong. Keeps me just the right temperature. It felt good while wearing it but like I said before I could feel it was there. That is the one place where the tight fitting rashguards have this one beat. Other then that it did not ride up or shift.

Pros-

*Excellent Construction

*Quick drying

*Good fit

Cons-

*Screen Printed logo

*Plain looks could be bad to some

Overall- This is an excellent rashgaurd. If you are in the market for a new one or are just looking to add another piece of gear to your collection this is definitely a product I can recommend. The price of this rashgaurd is about $53.

Looking closer at Hayabusa's newest entry in rash guards.... The Mizuchi

Intricately knitted with only the best fabrics with specialized tensile properties, these uniquely engineered rashguards easily outperform all other rashguards on the market.

First Impression- I pulled this rashguard out of the box and was immediately impressed by how it looked. I took it out of the plastic that it came in and the material is very soft and seemed thicker than other rashguards that I have. Looks great and I cant wait to try it. I also really enjoyed the japanese theme throughtout this rashguard.

Fit and Finish- I wear a shirt size medium so that is the size of the rashguard that I got and either my body is sized weird or the rashguard is. I found it to be quite tight on my arms and upper body but looser around my waist and stomach. However the quality and finish of this rashguard are top notch. No threads out of place or loose and the stitching is very high quality. I also noticed this rashguard is longer then most that I have which I think is a good thing as you could get a good tuck into your shorts with out it rolling or creeping up on you. All of the graphics are sub laminated but they seem to be even deeper in to material then most so I highly doubt that they are going to crack or peel.

Stand up- For stand up this rashguard works excellent. Not only did it stay where it is suppose to it did a very good job of wicking away moisture. I also found that it kept my body just the right temperature as some rashguards I have used in the past have caused me to over heat due to either thickness or how breathable the material is. The more I use this rash guard the more I like it.

Ground- This rashguard also works very well on the ground. Once again does an excellent job of wicking away moisture. On the ground it did creep up a little but nothing that I could not deal with and I did not ever have to re-tuck it. I also decided to wear this under a gi and for the most part kept me from getting gi burn. While under the gi it did an excellent job of keeping me just the right temperature.

Pros-

High Quality

Very Breathable material

Good moisture wicking

Sub laminated graphics

Cons-

Weird Sizing

Overall- I really liked this rashguard and other than the odd sizing it is an excellent product. If you are looking for a rashguard at the top of food chain then I would give this one a try. This is definitely a product I would recommend. The price for this is around $60.
