Here is the first look at a brand new product. Monster Gloves, coming to amateur mma near you, but until then take a look here.

Here I am coming at you with a product I know you have never seen before. These gloves are brand new to the market and have tons of innovative features. Everything from specific hammerfist and ridgehand padding to a special closure system. Right now there are two different models. One intended for amateur competition(blue or red) use and one strictly for training(black), although either one can be used in training. I personally use these gloves all the time, and really don’t have enough good things to say about them, not to mention that some national organizations use them and some even mandate them . Here is a list of some of the other features

-Hammerfist and ridgehand padding

-Padding over the punching knuckles and padded mid-knuckles

-Inovative closure system which provides excellent wrist protection for an mma glove

Here is also a video showing them in use.

There is also some headgear that I will feature in a later article(also seen in the video). Be sure and check back for a full review of these gloves that will for sure not disappoint.

Finally I get to reviewing TITLE Gel® Intense Bag/Sparring Gloves. Click forward to see what I think.. Best ever or dud?

Per Manufacturer- Exclusive Gel Enforced Lining® and multi-layered foam padding form an unbeatable combination of power, performance and protection. GEL® lining delivers a winning layer of custom form fit and impact resistance for champion results. GEL® infused tri-stacked cuff with 360 degree wraparound wrist strap with hook-and-loop closure provides extra support and security. Removable elastic cuff sleeves allow athlete to convert from bag gloves to sparring gloves in seconds. Moisture wicking hand compartment liner helps deliver cool, dry and comfortable training. Crafted from select hides of full grain leather.

First Impression- When I got these gloves out of the box that they came in I was immediately impressed. Just from looks, they are extremely clean looking and you can tell they are made with quality in mind.

Construction- These gloves are absolutely excellent. The stitching is done very well, with very few loose threads, and has double stitching in all the right places. The leather on these is soft, yet durable. One thing that bothered me on the previous title glove I tried was the hook and loop system was almost all made of elastic. Well they have done away with that, and gone to a small piece of elastic and the rest is actual leather. These gloves have a gel lining that goes over the fist and offers more protection for your hand than just normal padding. They also feature a breathable panel in the palm of the glove. In the past I have not been a fan of this but this one is small enough, and feels like it will be durable enough to maintain lots of use. The inner lining of these gloves is extremely soft and does a great job at wicking away moisture. Everything about these gloves screams quality and I am not the only one who thinks it. Check out what Matt M. (@MushiPanda on twitter) has to say as well,

“I can honestly say after 15 plus years of stand up training, there is no better glove out there, period. Title has left nothing to spare with the new Intense, its designed to be an all around glove and surpasses most sparring or bag gloves designed for the one use only, Title is proving why they are being noticed more and more in the gym and in the bags of most elite strikers.”

Fit- Whenever I get a new pair of gloves this is the biggest area of concern to me. I can get over small quality control issues, but fit is just that. It either fits well or it doesn’t. Well these gloves fit perfectly. They are tight where they need to be and feel very secure on my hand. When I first slid my hands into these gloves I was blown away with how comfortable they are. These are a 16oz gloves and feel like it. It is very easy to make a fist in them, and the attached thumb is in the perfect position. With the hook and loop style closure system you can get just the right amount of wrist protection. In the previous version of this glove I had noticed that my hands got very sweaty due to the fact that there was virtually no ventilation, well that s no longer the case with the added mesh panel in the palm. Now my hands don’t get as sweaty and that mesh provides just the right amount of ventilation. Really the only negative thing that I could come up and its small, is that they are not the easiest to open the hand so some clinch work was harder than others.

Mitts/Pads- I really could not find a use where I did not like these gloves. They work great when using pads or mitts. Provide plenty of protection for the hands and the wrist, and feel great while doing it. The gloves don’t feel overly heavy and are actually very well balanced. There was little to no hand fatigue as it was very easy to make a fist.

Heavy Bag- This is just another great use for these gloves. There really isn’t a whole lot I can say that I haven’t already said. They feel great, and do acutely what they are suppose to do. The padding in them does an excellent job at keeping your hand safe and I had no soreness after using these like I have experienced with other gloves after many rounds on the heavy bag.

Sparring- Now I thought, typically gloves are good for either bags and mitts, or sparring not both. Either they are too stiff or too soft. Well finally Title brings you a gloves that you will love for both. Not only will you love them but so will your sparring partner. Something that I haven’t really touched on is that these gloves come with a detachable sleeve that goes over the hook and loop closure system to protect both you and your partner. These still provide plenty of support and the padding is soft enough that you will not cause serious injury to your sparring partner.

Pros-

*Fantastic Construction

*Overall Fit

*Multi Use

Cons-

*Not as easy to open the hand for clinch work(I am really digging here guys)

Overall- If there is one review you read of mine and think I might buy this product please let it be this one. These are without a doubt the best gloves I have used and continue to use them almost on a daily basis. With an excellent fit and unbelievable construction you really cant go wrong, so if you are in the market for a new pair of gloves, and maybe if your not, be sure and check out these gloves. You will not be disappointed and be sure and tell them MMA Gear Advice sent you.

Here I take a look at another Ring to Cage product, their Safety Strap Bag Gloves. Read my full review for all the info.

Per Manufacturer-

Triple layer foam padding, This gloves provides complete protection for both the fist and wrist, features a unique double strap, safety strap closing system that offers the utmost in security and support. Attached padded thumbs, soft poly/nylon lining for quick drying.

First Impression- Like many things from Ring to Cage I was really looking forward to trying these gloves out. They looked well put together, and had the usual green colors that Ring to Cage is known for.

Construction-I have looked at so many different pairs of gloves and have seen so many levels of construction. I would put these gloves at the higher end of that spectrum. While they are not the best gloves that I have seen or tested they are build very well. There is no loose threading and all of the stitching is done very well. The leather on them is pretty stiff, but these are bag gloves so that was to be expected. Something on these that you wont find on every glove is a dual closure system. In this glove it is done well, but I will get more into that in the “fit” section of this review. The lining on the inside of this glove is soft, and feels good against the hand.

Fit-The fit of these was just okay for me. If you have read some of my previous reviews you know that I have smaller hands, and these gloves were even a little tight on me. The lining on the inside of the gloves did a good job at wicking away the moisture, but at the same time made my hands feel hot. Now onto the closure system. For me I thought that it was just okay. I have tried other gloves with this same style of closure system, and sometimes it works and sometimes it does not. This was one of those times where it was just in the middle. What I mean by that is while it was comfortable I do not know if having the extra strap really made that much difference in the wrist support.

Pad/Mitts- I tried these out just like I would any other glove in the three stand up areas I normally would. First is Pads and Mitts. These gloves are really not designed for this so the be perfectly honest I gave them a little time on the mitts, and moved on. The reason is that there are other gloves that I like so much more for this and really wanted to get to what these gloves were intended on being used for. If someone were to ask me if I like these for using with mitts or pads I would simply tell them,”Ehh.”

Heavy Bag- Here is what these gloves are designed for, the heavy bag. I strapped them on and got to work. They feel pretty good during the workout although like I mentioned before my hands would get hotter then when I have used other gloves. The wrist support was good, but not the best that I have ever used, and the padding did exactly what it is suppose to do when making contact with the bag. Was there anything that I really did not like about these gloves, no they work well at what they are designed to do. They have a good weight to them(12oz) which adds to your workout, but does not make them feel bulky, and found it easy to make a fist without my hand becoming fatigued half way into my workout.

Sparring- Really all I can say is do not use them for this. Not only is the padding to dense to begin with, but with all that work on the heavy bag they are only going to get harder. Do your training partner a favor and leave these for the bag.

Pros-

*Great Construction

*Good Design

Cons-

*Tight hand compartment

*Need better ventilation

Overall-Really what it comes down to is do I recommend these gloves or not. If you are looking for a solid pair of bag gloves then I say yes. If you are looking for a more well rounded glove that you could use in many different types of drills then maybe you should look at something else however you can still look at Ring to Cage as they have many different gloves to choose from. These gloves can be purchased for right around $55.

Have all this extra cash left over after Christmas, and need to buy some new mma gear? Well what are you waiting for? Here is my guide to the best gear in the last year part 1.

Here it is almost the end of 2010 and I know what you are thinking. I have all this extra cash left over after Christmas and I need to buy some new mma gear. Well what are you waiting for? There is tons of great gear out there and I am going to take you through what I think is some of the best of the year. Whether you are thinking shorts or gloves, mouthguard or gi, or ever just a new hoodie I got you covered. Just sit back, relax, and enjoy a look at what I think are the best of 2010, and with 2011 coming up I can not wait to see what is just around the corner.

I think the best way to do this is I am going to present this in portions… first up shorts.

SHORTS

Every one of us that is a hardcore gear addict knows this is the staple of our addiction. You can never have too many pairs of mma shorts. I know that I can’t, and just continue to get them no matter how many pairs that I have. As new stuff comes out, I must have to have it. These are just a couple examples of the shorts that I have reviewed that I think are ones that you should not live without.

Sprawl Fusion-S Shorts

These are really some of the best shorts out on the market. With almost every key feature combined into one short this is surely not a pair that you will want to pass up.

Clinch Gear Elite Shorts

I am sure that you have seen these around. They are some of the best shorts out there. With top notch quality and customer service to match these shorts should not be passed up on.

I just finished my review of these and they are a last minute addition just due to how good these shorts are. Really a fantastic pair of shorts that should not be overlooked.

Now for the underdog pair of shorts….

You know these are really a very quality pair of shorts. With really nothing wrong with them, they are extremely hard to pass us. Be sure if you are looking to get some new shorts you take a look at these.

Feel like there is something that I should add? Maybe you think your shorts should be here. Well do not feel bad. These are just the ones that I really feel like were ahead of the others. Plenty of other sections to go so don’t get your jockstrap in a bind just yet.

Here is a look at Revgear's Vigilante Gel MMA Gloves. Read my full review to see how they stack up against some stiff competition.

Per Manufacture- Revgear Vigilante Gel MMA Gloves. The most comfortable MMA glove you will ever wear. Open palm for solid grip. Unique crossing wrist strap for support. Full one inch of padding including 5 mm gel padding over the punching area. Durable leather construction. Size: S, M, L, XL, XXL. Color: Black

First Impression- When I first opened these gloves up I was a little worried because they seemed like they were going to be bulky as the padding felt thick. The construction looked good and I could not wait to put them through some workouts.

Construction- I would rate the construction of these gloves as better than average. While the leather is well done, but there is some loose stitching. The closure system on these is a dual strap style closure, one thing I really like about this particular closure system is the Velcro goes all the way around providing a very tight fit around the wrist. The fingers are not individually split so for some people that may be annoying, but it did not bother me. The logo across the front is screen printed on and over time while probably become either faded or come off altogether. The lining on the inside of the glove has a satin feel to it. I really like the padding in these as it is not only thicker than most but also feels like it is very shock absorbing. Plus it features a 5mm gel lining across the knuckles for that added protection. These gloves are manufactured in.

Fit- This is with out a doubt my favorite thing about these gloves. There is a ton of adjustability with them, the wrist strap really provides the support that you need when using an mma glove. The lining feels great against the hand, and even though the fingers are not split, you can still easily make a fist. The finger loops are comfortable and do not dig into your hands but on occasion I did have a finger slip out of one of the loops. These gloves are available in several sizes so you can be sure and get the right size.

Stand Up- These gloves work well for stand up, but I do not think that I would consider them competition style gloves as the padding across the knuckle area is just to thick. For light sparring I think that these gloves work just fine. They provide plenty of protection for your hands, while still being able to make a fist. I also like these for use with mitts. My hands did not get sore, but I did develop some rawness between my fingers due to the fingers of the gloves not being split individually.

Ground- I had mixed experiences with these gloves while on the ground. First let me tell you about my main problem. With the padding being so thick I found that the gloves felt a little bulky. There were certain submissions that were harder to get than normal due to the glove actually being in the way. It was not huge, but I could tell they were there more than other gloves that I have used. That was really the only thing that bothered me about these gloves. Everything else while on the ground worked just fine.

Pros-

*Better than average construction

*Great Wrist support

*Very comfortable

Cons-

*A little bulky

*Fingers not split

Overall- These are a pair of gloves that I can recommend and with a small tweaks that I mentioned in the review they could be one of my favorites. If you are looking for a pair of mma gloves to use during training be sure and look at these. If you are looking for some competition gloves you may want to look somewhere else. They can be purchased for right around $60.

Per Manufacturer-

*Designed for competition use.
*Genuine leather.
*4.5oz.
*Fingers are split at base for unimpeded dexterity and ventilation.
*Longer fingers add extra protection to the knuckles.
*Dual cross directional strap system for ultimate wrist support and striking performance, one strap is elasticated which is covered by second leather strap after.
*Contoured knuckle padding

First Impression- Pulled these gloves out and they looked great. One thing I did notice is that they felt extremely stiff. Let see how they felt once they were strapped on and ready to go.

Construction- The construction of these gloves is very well done. Just looking them over I notice there are very few loose threads, but still continue to notice how stiff these glove feel. The padding on them is is very stiff, seems similar to fairtex mma gloves. The lining on the inside of the glove is drimax which is designed to wick away moisture from your hand. Over normal mma gloves this particular pair have a few features most mma gloves do not have. First you have the dual closure system. Yes, there are other gloves on the market which feature this system, but not all. The second is the strap that goes across the palm of your hand to keep the glove tight to your hand. The fingers in these gloves are not only longer, but also split to provide better independent movement. These gloves are made from genuine leather and are manufactured in Pakistan. The logo across the knuckles of the glove is screen printed on, and these is a stitched on logo on the closure system.

Fit- Just like I thought when I had originally taken the gloves out, these gloves are very stiff feeling. These glove will definitely need some break in time. The drimax material on the inside of the glove feels good against my hand, and does a good job of wicking away moisture. The fingers of these gloves are tight around my fingers, and extend to right about the middle of all my fingers. The strap that goes across the palm works well, but does create a small pocket in the corner where a finger could get caught. However the pocket is smaller than most gloves. Now onto the closure system. It is a two part closure system which is designed to provide better wrist support. I think that for people with bigger wrists that this will work, but for people like myself that have smaller wrists there is just not enough Velcro on the first strap. This makes it so that you can not tighten the second strap all the way. Even with hands fully taped I could not get the second strap tight enough so that would be one of the improvements that I would suggest on these gloves.

Stand Up- While using these gloves for stand up I thought they worked just okay. These are designed for competition use so I really only used them on mitts and for some grappling. The fact that they were so stiff when I first got them it just took awhile to really get use to them and to break them in. The padding on them does a good job of absorbing the impact when punching, and these gloves stayed tight to my hands through outs my entire workout. The wrist support however is just average. Now keep in mind someone with larger wrists than mine might find these gloves to work well, but on me I just could not get them tight enough.

Ground- On the ground these gloves were above average. The split fingers make it easy to grapple, and the tightness of the gloves made them feel natural. One thing I did like about these gloves is that they are not too bulky. The strap going across the palm kept the glove tight against my hand, and I never got anyone’s fingers caught in the small pocket on the outside on the palm of the glove. The initial stiffness of the glove cause some problems in the beginning, but one the glove were broken in, it was hardly noticeable.

Pr0s-

*Good Construction

*Contoured padding

*Strap across the palm

Cons-

*Very Stiff

*Not enough Velcro on first strap

Overall- These gloves for me are just above average. They have a lot of good ideas and extras put on them, but they just could have been executed a little better. Even those these gloves do have a few problems I will still give them a recommendation due to the fact that the closure system may work better on someone with larger wrists. Once you get these gloves broken in, they work just fine. They can be purchased for right around $50.

Construction- These pair of gloves look great. This pair is a 16oz pair of gloves and they definitely look like it. The leather on these gloves is thick and has a good feel to it, it is not stretched to tight across the glove. The logo on the back hand of the glove is screen printed on, but they do have a stitched on logo on the cuff. The closure on these gloves is fairly standard except for they have the sleeve that you pull over the Velcro part. These gloves have are injection molded plus they have a gel lining in them which should offer plenty of shock absorption. The hand compartment is lined with a satin like material, but they have no ventilation in the palm and with the elastic sleeve cover up all the holes I am worried these gloves might keep my hands too hot. They do feature a grab bar and an attached thumb.

Fit- When I first tried these gloves on the hand compartment is sung and really conforms to the hand. One thing I did notice was it takes more effort than normal to make a fist so hopefully my hand will not get tired during workouts. The cuff of these gloves is long and goes about halfway down my forearm. The lining feels good against my hand, but I did notice that it did not absorb much of the sweat on my hands. The closure system on these provides good wrist support, but it is hard to pull the elastic sleeve down the cuff of the glove by yourself.

Pad/Mitts- For me this was my least favorite place for these gloves. It is not that they did not work well at this its just I really liked them for sparring and use on a heavy bag, but I will get into that a little later in the review. These gloves offer good wrist support and great hand protection. When hitting the mitts the gloves felt tight, but I did notice that the lack on ventilation definitely made my hands both hotter and sweatier than other gloves. Another thing that I noticed is my hand became a little fatigued later on in my workouts just because these gloves are a little harder to make a closed fist in.

Heavy Bag- First let me start off by saying that I would either use these gloves for sparring or on the heavy bag, but not both. These gloves provide such great shock absorption thanks to the injected padding and gel lining. A lot of people prefer a very hard glove for heavy bag work and I am not one of those people. For me a harder glove on the heavy bag does not work, but a sparring partner of mine has the complete opposite feeling. Anyway, back to the review. These gloves have good wrist support and after many rounds I did not find that either my hands or wrists were sore. It was also fairly easy to wear wraps as they are not too tight to make them uncomfortable while wraps were on.

Sparring- I would have to say that for these gloves this was my favorite place to use them. The padding in them provides enough support for you while being just the right amount of stiffness for your sparring partner. I got zero complaints from anyone that I sparred with while using these gloves. I did same as before find that my hands would become very hot and sweaty, and also becoming fatigued later on in the work out. Now the reason why I would choose these are either sparring or heavy bag and not both is because using these on the heavy bag is going to make the padding in these gloves become dense and not so sparring friendly. However if I had my choice I think I would pick these for sparring.

Pros-

*Good Construction

*Excellent Padding

*Good Wrist Support

Cons-

*Lack Of Ventilation

*Elastic Sleeve is Difficult by Yourself

*Making a Fist is More difficult than it should be

Overall- These are really a good pair of gloves. The leather is done well and the fit of the glove overall is good. If just the few flaws with these gloves could be addressed I think these would be close to the top of my list. I can definitely recommend these gloves, especially if you are looking for a new pair of sparring gloves. These gloves can be yours for right around $85.

Per Manufacturer-

Classic Thai style, evenly distributed padding protects your entire hand, tight and compact design.
Shock-absorbing, high density foam core, Thumb attached for added safety

First Impression- These gloves look very nice and I really like the color combination that is used. The leather feels nice and they look well constructed. Lets see how they hold up.

Construction- When I first saw these gloves I was immediately impressed by the construction. They have little to no loose threads and they are double stitched at all the stress points. The leather is thick but not is not stretched to tight over the padding. I got the 16oz version of these gloves and the weight of them feels about on par with most 16oz gloves. They have holes in the palm for ventilation, and the interior lining has a satin feel to it. These gloves are manufactured in Pakistan. The padding in these gloves is thick and is soft which is perfect in s sparring style glove like these. The cuff of these gloves is short more like classic thai glove rather than the longer cuff of a western style glove. The logo on the back of the hand compartment is screen printed on while the one on the closure strap is sewn on. Speaking of closure these gloves have a standard hook and loop style closure system.

Fit- Like I mentioned I got the 16oz version of this glove and while most 16oz gloves are semi-tight to loose on me these gloves are very tight. These are the only glove I have had that I could not fit on my hands with wraps. There are both positives and negatives to this. The tight fit is nice, but maybe not give the support that you need. It is also harder to make a fist in this glove. The gloves are more open handed like a thai glove which works great for clinch work, but makes closing this fist more difficult than I feel like it should be. The ventilation in these gloves is okay. I feel like once again due to the hand compartment being so tight you just cant get the air to your hands, although the vents in the palm do help. The wrist support is good due to the hook and loop closure being so tight around wrist. The lining on the inside of the gloves feels good and does an okay job and wicking the moisture away from your hand. Now this just may be my pair of gloves, but in the finger are on the indie of the glove the fabric was wadded up like there may have been too much and made it a little uncomfortable on my fingers, but like I mentioned that may have just been my pair so no knock down for that.

Pad/Mitt- These gloves did an okay job at mitt and pad work. The shock absorption was descent. Through some of the workouts I found my hands to become a little fatigued just because it is a little difficult to make a fist. I also noticed that with these gloves my hands would be come very hot. I just think that is because they are so tight. Normally I like my gloves nice and tight but these were to the point of almost being uncomfortable. I do not even want to imagine how hot my hands would become if these did not have any holes for ventilation. One of the good things about these gloves is the wrist support.

Heavy Bag- I did not really like these on the heavy bag. I could feel the a lot of the impact through the gloves. After some of my workouts my hands were sore. Now I did try the bag both with and without wraps which is something that I do not normally like to do, but because of how tight these gloves where I wanted to see if it made a huge difference. Well, it did make a difference. When wearing wraps these gloves were just not comfortable and making fist became very hard. When not wearing wraps it made it better than with wraps, but like I mentioned my hands would hurt after long workouts. The padding in these gloves is not meant for use on a heavy bag, but the name does say sparring gloves.

Sparring- This is where I think that these gloves did the best. Still felt about the same as they did in the other categories, but because the padding is softer I feel like these gloves work better for sparring. I did not receive any complaints from sparring partners, and for the most part felt good. still difficult to make a fist, but a positive of that was keeping the hand open for the clinch was pretty easy. However I felt like the wrists were too tight sometimes when I would have people in the clinch as I could not get as much movement as I like sometimes. I could cover up pretty well with these, and they did a good job at absorbing the shock from partners punches. This is definitely where I think these gloves work the best.

Pros-

*Good Construction

*Good Wrist Support

Cons-

*Very Tight

* Soft Padding

Overall- I continue to have mixed feelings about these gloves. They work well at sparring, but that is really all I wanted to use them for once I tried them in other areas. I do not think that it is a defect in the glove I just think that they have a very specific purpose and that makes them hard to recommend. If you are looking for a pure sparring glove and have small hands then give these a look, otherwise I would say you might find better somewhere else. Which is unfortunate as everything else I have used from Ring to Cage has been top notch. These can be purchased for right around $70.
