2010 MMA Gear Buying Guide Part 1

Here it is almost the end of 2010 and I know what you are thinking. I have all this extra cash left over after Christmas and I need to buy some new mma gear. Well what are you waiting for? There is tons of great gear out there and I am going to take you through what I think is some of the best of the year. Whether you are thinking shorts or gloves, mouthguard or gi, or ever just a new hoodie I got you covered. Just sit back, relax, and enjoy a look at what I think are the best of 2010, and with 2011 coming up I can not wait to see what is just around the corner.

I think the best way to do this is I am going to present this in portions… first up shorts.

SHORTS

Every one of us that is a hardcore gear addict knows this is the staple of our addiction. You can never have too many pairs of mma shorts. I know that I can’t, and just continue to get them no matter how many pairs that I have. As new stuff comes out, I must have to have it. These are just a couple examples of the shorts that I have reviewed that I think are ones that you should not live without.

Sprawl Fusion-S Shorts

These are really some of the best shorts out on the market. With almost every key feature combined into one short this is surely not a pair that you will want to pass up.

Review Python Mouth Guard

Python Mouth Guards

Process-

After the first point of contact you will receive a kit to make your impression in about 3 days. I noticed that he is located on the east coast and I am on the west coast and still got mine in 3 days. here is the kit you will receive.

There is also a great video on his site that tells you exactly how to do everything and make a good impression. Here is a better look at some of the stuff in the kit.

You receive two of each color of the impression material which you mix together an put in whichever one of the 2 trays they send you fits in your mouth better. I have a smaller mouth so I used the smaller tray.

As you can see you get two different trays. They are slightly different in size although for myself a smaller tray could have helped a little more as once I got the impression material in the tray it was quite hard to get in my mouth.

After getting the material in the tray and taking the actual impression you should have a tray that turns out like this.

At this point I emailed this pic to Scott at python guards to make sure that it would work and he quickly got back to me letting me know that this would work fine. In the kit you receive a self addressed label. I packed up everything in a box including the parts of the kit I did not use and sent it back to him. He let me know when he received the package from me and went to work on making my guard.

I gave him a custom design that I wanted and emailed him pictures to use. He said that would be no problem. About a week went by and I got an email from Scott letting me know that my guard was just about done and would go out the following day. I then received another email from letting me know that the guard did not turn out the way we thought it would and that he as was going to remake it by hand so that it would look better.

Final Product-

Three days later I received the guard and it was exactly what I had asked for. I have worked with a custom guard before and this one looked much better then my last. I was excited to test the fit.

The first time that I put it in my mouth and tried the fit it was somewhat painful. It goes very high up the gum line which I was not use to at all. Other then that the fit was perfect. After my mouth got use to it I do not find it to be painful at all. Something that I do is run warm water over it just to make it a little bit easier to get in my mouth. This thing fits great sometimes I forget that I am wearing it. Since having it I took a very hard accidental elbow to the mouth during jiu jitsu and while my lip got busted up a little the guard kept my teeth protected. I also have had it in during some very intense sparring and had nothing but confidence in this guard.

Overall-

I highly recommend this mouth guard. If you are looking for a high quality guard from a company with great customer service then check out python guards.
