Have all this extra cash left over after Christmas, and need to buy some new mma gear? Well what are you waiting for? Here is my guide to the best gear in the last year part 1.

Here it is almost the end of 2010 and I know what you are thinking. I have all this extra cash left over after Christmas and I need to buy some new mma gear. Well what are you waiting for? There is tons of great gear out there and I am going to take you through what I think is some of the best of the year. Whether you are thinking shorts or gloves, mouthguard or gi, or ever just a new hoodie I got you covered. Just sit back, relax, and enjoy a look at what I think are the best of 2010, and with 2011 coming up I can not wait to see what is just around the corner.

I think the best way to do this is I am going to present this in portions… first up shorts.

SHORTS

Every one of us that is a hardcore gear addict knows this is the staple of our addiction. You can never have too many pairs of mma shorts. I know that I can’t, and just continue to get them no matter how many pairs that I have. As new stuff comes out, I must have to have it. These are just a couple examples of the shorts that I have reviewed that I think are ones that you should not live without.

Sprawl Fusion-S Shorts

These are really some of the best shorts out on the market. With almost every key feature combined into one short this is surely not a pair that you will want to pass up.

A closer look at Fairtex's MMA glove. Is it worth your cash? Read the full review and find out.

Per Manufacture- Fairtex Originals with supremely natural feel for maximizing functionality, comfort, and durability during intense MMA competition and training. Fingers are split at base for unimpeded dexterity and ventilation. Longer fingers add extra protection to knuckles. Patent-pending ergonomic “open palm” hand compartment for maximum hand sensitivity. Contoured knuckle padding supports safe punching from all angles.

Handmade in Thailand.
Genuine leather shell.
3-layer foam core for excellent hand protection.
Nylon water-repellent lining

First Thoughts- As soon as I opened the box and saw these gloves I knew that I was going to like them. The color of them is amazing and the quality is unmatched. They smelled of leather unlike some gloves which smell like chemicals.

Construction- These gloves had no loose threads and felt very well constructed. They are manufactured in Thailand and are made up of genuine leather. The foam cores on these gloves are very compact so keep that in mind and do take some time to break in so that they fell just right.

Fit-I was a little worried about the fit of these gloves since my hands are on the smaller side so I got the medium in these gloves and the fit is close but not perfect. They are still a little loose on my hands but with wraps they fit near perfect. They have your standard hook and loop closure style system which for me wraps around quite far. The inside of them have a soft fabric that wicks away moisture. These gloves are precurved which is great and makes them feel very natural.

Stand up-These gloves work very good for stand up although I would only use them for either mit or pad work. You can use them on a heavy bag but really not what they are designed to do. Also not for sparring as you could injure your partner very easy as they hit like freight trains. Feel very light on my hands and find it easy to make a fist thanks to them being precurved.

Ground- This is were I found that I use these most in that I like to roll with gloves on my hands and these work very well. Had no problem sinking in any kind of chokes or any other submissions like I do when using a mma training gloves. I also noticed that when doing ground work they did not get tangled up with my partners hands if he choose to grab my hands. Have a good fit around the hand. You can still tell you are wearing gloves though and at first the lining rubbed on my knuckles but the problem has gone away.

Pros-

All leather construction

Precurved

Overall Quality

Cons-

High price

Very Stiff

Overall-I would highly recommend these gloves if you are in the market for MMA gloves however be careful with the fit and make sure that you get the right size. Very high quality gloves

Per Manufacture-

-Handmade in Thailand

-Top grain leather shell

-Shock-absorbing, high-density foam core

-Thumb attached for added safety

First Impression- When I pulled these gloves out of the box and out of the plastic I could tell that they were going to be a quality pair of gloves. The quality looked great and the color was awesome.

Construction-The construction of these is excellent. They are made in Thailand and the leather is very nice. I could not get a lot of info about what the liner in the glove is made out of but it is very nice feeling and even has the Fairtex “double f” logo on it.

Fit- There are both good and bad things about the fit of these gloves. As you can see from pictures these gloves do not have a very long cuff. They are very compact and put padding in all the right places. However the hand compartment inside is quite large. With wraps it was even a little big. Another problem that I had with these gloves is that they don’t have any sort of grab bar so it kind of feels like you are just folding you fingers over your palm instead of making a fist. These gloves feature and standard hook and loop style closure which even on my smaller wrists I could get nice and tight. They also have an attached thumb which is pretty standard for most gloves now a days. These are a very comfortable pair of gloves. The actual contact are of the glove is nice and wide and provides plenty of protection for the knuckles.

Mitts/Pads- These gloves worked great on the pads and mitts. They did a good job and at absorbing the impact from the pads have good wrist support. Like I said my only real complaint is how big the hand compartment is which sometimes lead to my hand hurting after workouts.

Heavy Bag- I did not really like these on the heavy bag due to the fact that the hand compartment was so big. Now wrapping hands did help(which you should be doing anyways) but it was still big and my hand could move around inside the glove. Now for people with bigger hands this glove make work great but for me the compartment was just too big. It did do a good job of absorbing the shock when hitting the bag.

Sparring- I liked these gloves for sparring. The padding is not stiff so they and allows for plenty of give when hitting your partner. They also worked well when blocking as they have a good amount of padding on the back hand side of the glove. I was able to get the clinch in these and did not have any problems opening up my hand and keeping it secure.

Pros-

Incredible quality

Looks and design

Multi use

Cons-

Large hand compartment

No Grab Bar

Overall- The quality of these gloves is top notch. They look and feel like a top level glove should. If you have smaller hands you may want to drop to a 14oz but other than that I recommend picking these gloves up. I got them from http://www.elitemma.com/ which has excellent customer service and fast shipping. They go for right around $90

**Disclaimer** I received these at no cost for the purpose of review
