Have all this extra cash left over after Christmas, and need to buy some new mma gear? Well what are you waiting for? Here is my guide to the best gear in the last year part 1.

Here it is almost the end of 2010 and I know what you are thinking. I have all this extra cash left over after Christmas and I need to buy some new mma gear. Well what are you waiting for? There is tons of great gear out there and I am going to take you through what I think is some of the best of the year. Whether you are thinking shorts or gloves, mouthguard or gi, or ever just a new hoodie I got you covered. Just sit back, relax, and enjoy a look at what I think are the best of 2010, and with 2011 coming up I can not wait to see what is just around the corner.

I think the best way to do this is I am going to present this in portions… first up shorts.

SHORTS

Every one of us that is a hardcore gear addict knows this is the staple of our addiction. You can never have too many pairs of mma shorts. I know that I can’t, and just continue to get them no matter how many pairs that I have. As new stuff comes out, I must have to have it. These are just a couple examples of the shorts that I have reviewed that I think are ones that you should not live without.

Sprawl Fusion-S Shorts

These are really some of the best shorts out on the market. With almost every key feature combined into one short this is surely not a pair that you will want to pass up.

I am sure that you have seen these around. They are some of the best shorts out there. With top notch quality and customer service to match these shorts should not be passed up on.

Stowable back pack straps, quick release hardware, and duffle strap allows the bag to be converted from a backpack to a duffle bag with ease

Backpack Configuration Dimensions: 23” x 16” x 12”

Duffle Bag Configuration Dimensions: 35” x 16” x 12”

First Impression- When I got this bag out it seemed huge even as just a backpack. Should be able to get tons of stuff in it.

Construction- While looking through this bag I noticed that the construction of this bag is fantastic. All of the stitching on it is done very well. The logos on the sides are screen printed on while other other are embroidered. There is plenty of padding where there should be and the arm straps are done well. This bag has a ton of different pockets. There are two pockets of the sides, on one side you have a pocket with little pockets inside, and on the other side you have pocket which is insulated to keep your drinks cool. There is a pocket at the top of the bag that is lined with velour so that things do not scratched. Then of course there are the main pockets which are made of mesh for great ventilation. Coolest thing is that this bag is a convertible bag which means it goes from a backpack to a duffle bag. This bag is manufactured in China.

Usage- Lets start of with this bag as a backpack. It is bigger than most backpacks, so you should be able to get almost everything that you need for training. Now if for some reason you can not fit all your gear in here, it has an expandable mesh pocket at the bottom which makes it into a duffle bag. I was able to fit several pairs of gloves, shorts, gi, towel, water bottle, and shin pads. I actually still had some room after that. Now I got all that stuff in there when it was a duffle bag. It was easy to carry this bag whether is be the backpack of the duffle bag. All of the zippers worked very well, and it was actually very easy to convert the bag between the two styles, although I prefer it as a backpack.

Pros-

*Excellent Construction

*Convertible Bag

*Lots of Pockets

Cons-

*Feels big when wearing as a backpack

Overall- There is really not a whole lot that I could find wrong with this bag. It has tons of pockets and carries all the gear that I need. Be sure that if you are needing a new bag for your gear you check out the Jaco Convertible Equipment Bag. It retails for right around $120.

Thinking a gear bag is your next investment? Well take a look at my full review of Bad Boy's backpack.

Per Manufacturer-

Bad Boy Backpack. Everything you need for the gym, school, travel, office and more! Full length zippered top opening. Complete with anatomically shaped and padded shoulder strap.

One size: 16″x13.5″x8.5″.

First Impression- This bag is a great looking bag. It has padding everywhere it should and looks like it has plenty of space.

Construction- All I can saw is the construction of this bag is fantastic. No loose threads and the stitching on it it done well. The material that the bag is made out of is very durable and in spots has a similar weave to a gi. On the shoulder straps there is plenty of padding, and there is also padding on the part of the bag that goes against your bag for added comfort. This bag has a strap at the top of the bag so you can carry it in your hand if you want to. There are plenty of graphics on the outside of the bag which are screen printed on, but seem like they will last a long time.

Usage- This type of bag reminds me more of a school bag. While there is plenty of room in the bag itself I could only get so much gear in it. It has tons of different pockets which is nice and even a hole at the top for your headphones to come out of. One thing I did really like is how comfortable this bag is to wear, with all of the padding it makes easy to wear for long periods of time. I did manage to fit one pair of gloves, shorts, mouthguard, and a few smaller items in it but that was about it. Now for most that may work just fine, but for me I like to have 2 pairs gloves and would have liked to been able to get my gi in there as well. I also used this bag for travel and it worked great. Could get everything I needed as a carry-on in there. Laptop, camera(both still and video), magazines, ipod, and some of the smaller items for camera such as lenses and flashes.

Pros-

*Great Construction

*Lots of Pockets

Cons-

*Could be bigger

Overall- This is an excellent bag. While it may not be big enough for some, others may find that it is just the right size without being too big. I can definitely recommend this bag as a gear bag or just something to use when you travel to let others know that you are interested in mixed martial arts. With that said, if you are in the market for a new bag please be sure and check this bag out. It may be just the one you are looking for. This bag can be purchased for right around $40.

Need a new gear bag??? Take a look at my review of the Hayabusa Gear Bag - Pro Mesh

Per Manufacture- Everyone needs a good gym bag to cart their equipment around. Hayabusa designed this bag with a tough puncture and abrasion resistant mesh exterior to let damp and sweaty gear dry quickly. Equipped with a water resistant inner pocket for keeping dry or really wet items separate from the main compartment. This bag is Hayabusa quality, with a beefy main zipper, durable hardware and high quality fabrics throughout. Perfect for every mma athlete, and a great buy along with Hayabusa gloves, shinguards and other gear!

Constructed With Tough, Puncture and Abrasion Resistant Mesh Exterior, Coated Nylon Bottom

Fully Ventilated Design Maximizes Your Gear’s Longevity

Large Interior For All Your MMA Gear and Apparel (14×14×25 inches)

Water Resistant Inner Pocket for Separating Items

Removable Padded Shoulder Strap

Robust Main Zipper, Durable Hardware and High Quality Fabrics Throughout

First Impression- I got this bag and once I removed the plastic I saw that it was unlike any bag I have ever used or seen. Almost the entire bag was made out of a mesh. It seemed to be very durable feeling and was quite large I could not wait to try it out and see how much of my gear I could get in it.

Construction- This bag is very well constructed. There were no loose threads and everything had an amazing quality feel to it. This bag is manufactured in China. All of the logos on it are very well done right down to the zipper with the Peregrine Falcon on it. Everything about this bag screams quality just like Hayabusa is known for.

Usage- This bag is huge. I can easily fit all the gear I need in it (3pairs of gloves, gi, extra shorts, mouth guard, hand wraps, 2 rash guards, and thai pads) and I still have more room. The mesh is holding up very well and has no rips but I am curious on if the mesh can take a beating over and extended time. This bag has many pockets in it so you can keep all of the stuff you need separated away from other items. This bag also keeps everything very well ventilated. You don’t have to worry about throwing sweaty gear in your bag and it not drying out. The shoulder strap is a must as with this much stuff in it, it can get heavy. You can also use a small lock if you need to on the main zipper which is a nice feature if training at an unfamiliar gym or leaving it in a locker room.

Pros-

*Huge size

*Great Construction

*Full Ventilation

Cons-

*Longevity of mesh?

*Weight with gear

Overall- This is a great bag that I can definitely recommend. It is large and the quality is great not to mention it comes from a company that brings a lot of quality gear. This bag cost around $60. If you are in the market for a new gear bag make sure and take a look at this one.
