Competition Model
Per Manufacturer-
First Impression- I did not really know what to expect as I have used quite a few pairs of compression style groin protectors and found that most a very similar. Once I got these out of the plastic they felt very nice and the logos on them are done well. I am in between sizes so we will see which size fits me best.
Construction- I could tell when I first saw them that they are of excellent quality. All the stitching is done very well with no loose threads. The material that these are made of has a nice stretch to it allowing it to conform to your body. I will get more into that later when I discuss the fit. All of the logos are screen printed on but it seems to be top notch screen printing at least better then I have seen on other shorts. I do not see any signs of this cracking or peeling off. These shorts are constructed in China . The material is made up of 92% Nylon and 8% Spandex. On the inside of the shorts they have a pocket where you can place your cup. The material there is slightly different and seems to be better vented in that area. The construction on these is definitely top notch.
Fit- Okay, here is where I was a little worried. I got both the large and the medium and to be honest they both work for me and I will explain why. The large pair I got had an overall better fit but did not hold the cup in place tight enough. The medium pair that I got fit tight but held the cup tight and did not allow it to move or pinch. So here is what I did. With the large pair I actually wore a tradition jock underneath it, and then wore vale tudo shorts on top of that. This ended up being the perfect mix there, as when I wore the size medium with vale tudos they just dug into my legs too much. After all that the fit is excellent. They are nice and tight on the thighs so they do not ride up. I really like the waistband on these shorts because it provides a good fir with out digging into your side like some do. When in doubt go with your true size in these.
Stand up- These were very comfy when doing stand up. I will not say that I did not notice them, but they did exactly what they are suppose to do. I did take an inside leg kick that came up a little high and managed to stay protected. The shorts kept the cup right where it needed to be and there was no pinching. I also did not feel restricted while wearing the shorts and they did a good job at keeping my cool.
Ground- This is where you get a true test of a groin protector. I don’t know how many times I have taken a knee to the groin when working in or out of someones guard. Let me just start out by saying these shorts kept the cup where it needed to stay. The cup did not float or pinch me. I will say though I still think that a traditional jock works the best but is not near as comfortable. I did not have any problems with any sort of technique and actually found once I got going I really did not notice I was wearing them.
Pros-
*Quality
*Comfort
*Protection
Cons-
*Still think a traditional jock works better then compression shorts
*Sizing could be confusing
Overall- I really liked this product as a whole. While I think that a traditional jock works better, this is definitely the best pair of compression shorts I have found that works with a cup. If you would rather wear compression shorts then I suggest that you give these a try. They retail for right around $30
Weigh In Briefs
Per Manufacturer-
Construction- These are almost on the same construction of the comp model except they are a little looser fitting and have a fly. They are still made up of 92% Nylon and 8% Spandex. They have no loose threads and have excellent screen printing.
Fit- The fit of these are great. They are not as tight as the comp model but still tight enough to be considered compression shorts. They do offer a fly on the front of them unlike the comps and I feel like if you wanted could be worn very similar to normal underwear (although I did not try this). The waistband is built very solid and provides plenty of stretch.
I did not wear these in any sort of training although like it says you could wear them over a jock strap. I found these to be a very comfortable pair of shorts that I can definitely recommend. If you are looking for a new pair of compression shorts give these a try.
